Background

Purpose

Viewing the world through a camera and its lens is a passion many photographers share. With such a large selection of lenses on the market, it can be overwhelming for consumers to find the right one. When browsing online stores or visiting a local camera shop, it's easy to feel lost among the various brands, features, and technical terms.

Cameraby aims to simplify this process by providing reliable information about the most common lenses available. The platform serves as a starting point and a reference for photographers looking to purchase the right lens for their camera.

Target Audience

Cameraby is designed for all photographers who use Canon, Fujifilm, Sony, or Nikon cameras with interchangeable lenses.

Cameraby is and Will Always be Free

The information on Cameraby is completely free and will always remain accessible to visitors. Learn more about how you can Support Cameraby.

How Did the Idea for Cameraby Come About?

The idea for a website about cameras and lenses came to me after countless hours spent on Google, browsing online stores, reading forums, and looking for the best lenses. I often found myself asking,

"Why can't all valuable information be gathered in one place?"

That thought led me to create Objektivguiden, a Swedish site, back in 2007. I began by collecting data on lenses and cameras in Excel sheets, which later grew into a full-fledged website. After years of work, Objektivguiden launched in 2011 and is still available today at objektivguiden.se.

The following year, I launched an English version of the site called Lensora, which you can visit at lensora.com.

Family Life and Further Development

In 2012, I became a father to my son Alfred, and in 2015, Ivar was born. The early years of raising my children were busy and left little time to focus on developing the site. Balancing family life with my passion for photography and web development was a challenge, and as a result, I couldn't dedicate as much time to the project as I would have liked. However, as my children grew older and became more independent, I found more time to revisit my work. In 2023, I began thinking about how to take Lensora to the next level—making it multilingual and modernizing the platform. This eventually led to the creation of Cameraby, which was officially launched in 2024.

Milestones

Here are some key milestones in the platform's journey:

  • 2007: The idea for Cameraby’s predecessor, Objektivguiden, emerged.
  • 2011: Objektivguiden was officially launched in Sweden.
  • 2012: Lensora, an English version of the site, was introduced to reach a global audience.
  • 2023: The concept of Cameraby, a multilingual and modernized platform, was developed.
  • 2024: Cameraby was officially launched, offering detailed camera and lens guides to photographers worldwide.

Why the Name Cameraby?

I live with my family in a village called Åby in southern Sweden. The name Cameraby is a combination of 'Camera' and 'Åby,' reflecting the love for both photography and our home.
